Within a few minutes, I got this result —

ChatGPT adhered to the instructions I gave it, but did it clearly capture my face? I don’t think so.

I’ve seen people on Twitter (X) rave about how ChatGPT can generate accurate images for their face. I’ve had the opposite experience. For context, I’m on the “Plus” plan that costs $20 per month.

When I saw Twitter (X) users going gaga over how Google’s Gemini Flash experimental is excellent at generating accurate images of your face, I knew I had to give it a try.

I signed up for a free trial, uploaded a few pictures of my face, and asked Gemini to generate a professional headshot wearing a black tube top and a beige shirt.

Here’s the result I got versus how I look in real life.

The AI managed to capture the details of my outfit accurately. But was it able to replicate my face? Absolutely not!

The lady in the picture doesn’t remotely look like me. Her eyes are different, her hair is different, and she doesn’t wear glasses. There’s no way I can use this headshot on any social media platform and pass it off as my picture.

3 Free AI Headshot Generators Tested

You’ll find dozens of free AI headshot generators online. But do they actually deliver results worth using on a professional profile like LinkedIn?

And if they do, why are people shelling out $30 or more for premium AI photoshoots?

To find out, I tried three different free tools and tested their outputs myself. Here’s what I discovered:

1. AIEase Free AI Headshot Generator

AIEase offers a suite of AI-powered tools, one of which is a headshot generator that requires just a single selfie.

How to get an AI headshot with AIEase?

There are a bunch of styles to pick from. Once you select what appeals to you, the next step is to upload a selfie.

Once you upload it and hit “Headshot,” the tool gets to work.

About 30 seconds later, I had my result.

The tool picked up some of my facial features — my eyebrows, a hint of a smile — but the final image felt more like a 3D render than a photo. You could spot the artificiality from a mile away. This one’s not making it to my LinkedIn profile anytime soon.

2. Supawork

This tool gives you a bit more control.

How to get an AI headshot with Supawork?

Supawork asks for some basic information: gender, age, ethnicity, hair color, and the type of headshot you’re looking for. Then you upload up to 4 selfies (I went with all 4 to help the model out).

Within seconds, I had a AI-generated headshot ready.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t resemble me. In fact, I’m not sure it resembles a real human at all. This AI headshot isn’t LinkedIn-ready either.

3. Remaker AI

Remaker AI is a cool AI headshot generator tool you can try out for free.

How to get an AI headshot with Remaker AI?

Remaker AI follows a similar process: select a few personal details, upload four selfies, and wait about half a minute for the results.

I got my results after a few seconds.

To its credit, these headshots almost looked human. But accurate? Not quite. Any person who takes a clear look at these pictures would be able to tell these are AI-generated, and not real photographs.

Would I be using them on my LinkedIn profile? Never!
